Robertson Creek Fish Hatchery
The Robertson Creek Hatchery began as the largest pink salmon spawning channel in North America; it is now a coho and chinook salmon enhancement facility. The hatchery contributes to First Nations fisheries as well as to other local commercial seine and gillnet fisheries. The Alberni Valley is a popular sport and guided-fishing spot that attracts fishers from around the world. The influx of visitors creates employment and revenue for local businesses. The hatchery is regularly involved in educational visits to schools, teaching the basics of salmon enhancement. Visitors can experience and observe numerous activities involving the research of local salmon species year-round.
